Light Music is a musical and interactive multimedia production conceived by composer Thierry de Mey, developed and produced by GRAME. It allowed the emergence of new software environment and new interface concerning scenography composition, crossing different artistic expressions with the movement. Light Wall System while taking the Light Music features, comes as a multidisciplinary creative platform based on the potential of gesture.

This workshop doesn’t consist in a re-writing of Light music, but, from this artistic and technologic frame, the goal is to create new situations based on visual and sounding arts and seeks to define a new artistic concept.unding arts and seeks to define a new artistic concept.






Founded by Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou and James Giroudon in 1982, GRAME is now one of six constituent centres in the network of national centres of musical creation, a label created by the Ministry in 1997. The primary mission of GRAME is to allow for the conception and realization of new works, ensure their influence and dissemination, and contribute to scientific and musical research whilst building the necessary bridges between innovation and the public.






James Giroudon

James Giroudon was born in La Tour du Pin , near Lyon. He studied art history, sociology and education sciences at the University of Lyon. Also a graduate of Pierre Schaeffer and Guy Reibel’s class at the National Superior Conservatory of Music in Paris, he taught at the Conservatory of Music in Saint-Etienne from 1982 to 1990, where he created an electroacoustic music section, and in 1992 he was appointed to the Arts du Spectacle degree course at the Université de Caen.He founded Lyon GRAME with Pierre Alain Jaffrennou in 1982, where he is responsible for managing and artistic matters, as well as international development.


Jean Geoffroy

After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris where he obtained a First Prize in Percussion, Jean Geoffroy was able, in the world of percussion, invent a personal journey that led him to create and to play many works. In 2004, he created the play of Thierry de Mey Light Music for solo conductor and interactive device at Stage Music Festival in Lyon. This collaboration opens up new perspectives and allows him to explore other areas and other directions in his solo career.


Christophe Lebreton

After a musician and scientific training, Christophe Lebreton joined the team of GRAME in 1989. He worked for the research and development of tools, while confronting with daily realities and diversity of contemporary productions: great shows, international concerts, sound installations, discographies etc. Since 2003, he worked specifically on the motion capture and augmented scene. He experiences what he calls instrumental set design and is interested in all the arts where research and development are related.
